Our Berkhamsted clients needed a dedicated bedroom for their two children sharing a room on the first floor — a loft conversion with a dormer extension offered the space for a larger room with room to grow, without extending the footprint of the house at ground level.
We designed an L-shaped dormer wrapping the rear and side elevations to maximise floor area and headroom. Two rooflights supplement the dormer windows, ensuring the room stays bright even on overcast days. Built-in storage includes drawer units, hanging space, and low-level cupboards accessible for children.
The staircase was designed with a gentle pitch and secure handrail suitable for daily use by young children. Sound insulation between the loft floor and the rooms below was specified to a higher standard, keeping bedtime routines undisturbed.
