A hip-to-gable loft conversion in Watford extending a semi-detached roof to create a spacious family bedroom — gable end rebuilt, rooflights added, and internal volume maximised without a dormer.
Our Watford clients needed a proper family bedroom for their growing children — the existing hip roof left too little usable space at the centre of the loft. A hip-to-gable conversion was specified to extend the ridge line and create a full-width room with consistent headroom.
We rebuilt the side gable, reconfigured the roof structure with new ridge beams and purlins, and added two rooflights to bring daylight deep into the room. The external finish matches the existing tile and brickwork, keeping the elevation coherent with neighbouring properties.
Internally, the room includes built-in wardrobes along the eaves, engineered flooring, and a new staircase with a compact paddle layout to minimise disruption to the first-floor landing. Building regulations and structural calculations were coordinated from the outset.
