A Velux loft conversion in Harpenden transforming unused roof space into a bright guest bedroom — no rear extension required, with rooflights positioned for morning and afternoon light.
Our Harpenden clients wanted a guest bedroom without altering the rear elevation of their 1930s semi. A Velux conversion offered the right balance — usable headroom, excellent daylight, and a straightforward route through permitted development where applicable.
We surveyed the existing roof structure and specified two Velux rooflights positioned to capture morning light at the headboard and afternoon light across the dressing area. Insulation, ventilation, and acoustic detailing were specified to modern building standards throughout.
The completed room includes a compact en-suite shower room tucked into the eaves, bespoke joinery for storage, and a staircase designed to integrate cleanly with the first-floor landing. The result is a guest suite that feels purpose-built rather than adapted.
