Our clients in Bishop's Stortford wanted a self-contained principal suite at the top of the house — bedroom, en-suite shower room, and enough storage to replace the wardrobes they were losing from the floor below. The brief required careful planning to fit a shower room within the eaves without compromising headroom in the bedroom.
We designed a rear dormer to extend the usable floor area and specified a compact en-suite with a walk-in shower, wall-hung basin, and a rooflight above for natural ventilation. Structural steelwork supports the dormer opening while maintaining the existing chimney breast as a feature wall in the bedroom.
Finishes include porcelain tiling in the en-suite, engineered oak in the bedroom, and bespoke joinery for hanging and drawer storage. Building regulations approval covered both the structural works and the drainage connection for the new shower room.
